HOWTOTASTE,EVALUATE&SELLAWINECONTINUED

Try to avoid using the following terms: »Dry – This term is highly subjective, and could mean something drastically different to each person that uses it. If someone orders a “dry” wine, use specific and leading questions to help them make a decision

» Sweet – Unless you’re talking about a dessert wine, this term can give the perception that a wine has residual sugar when it actually does not. Better terms to use would be “fruit - forward” or “intensely tropical” or even better, name a specific fruit or quality rather than using a generic description

» Fruity – Wine is made from fruit, so you are not adding any clarity to the description by calling it fruity! Pick a specific fruit (peach, apple, banana) or at the very least a generalization (tropical fruit, stone fruit, tree fruit, berries) rather than just describing a wine as “fruity”

» “Easy to drink” or “very drinkable” – All of the wines on your list should be easy to drink, so this does not add anything to the description! Instead, think about what makes this wine easy to drink and use those as descriptors – light, balanced, elegant, lean, rich, approachable, etc...
