they thaw throughout the day pushing up the lines and causing soft spots around the baselines where there is shade. We will roll up the windscreens to allow more sun in these areas to speed up the drying process. Indoor court reservations over the next two months: During January and February our indoor court reservations are in high demand. All the programming, league play and clinics, along with flex league matches really strain our indoor court reservations. Please be patient and be flexible with your reservation to find a time to play. We will try to accommodate all reservations requests. Did you know? If you are on the indoor court plan, you are allowed to make reservations 7 days in advance and not the standard 48-hours in advance. This is done by calling in or making a reservation online. Once you join the indoor court plan, you have to keep it for one year. It’s a great way to save money and get the advantage of making We are close to wrapping up the year for our Tennis Committee. The committee is an important segment of the overall function of the tennis department. They are your communication conduit to and from the tennis playing membership. If you have an interest in serving on the committee for the 2024 - 2025 fiscal year, please reach out to me ASAP. We are gathering names to review where your volunteering could help us the most. A special thank you to our 3-year leader of the committee Kevin Case for his support of the tennis program. He has been wonderful to work with over these three years. Also, I could not thank Randy Moore enough for his role on the committee and service to over seeing the construction of the pickleball court renovation. One of the Board's and Tennis Committee goals for 2024 is to engage our members in stewardship of our facilities. What does that mean you might ask? Well, to reach our goal we need the help of all tennis enthusiasts. We ask that you to follow some simple steps that will help us save money in our operational budget. • We spend $10,000.00 each year on lost towels. Please return them when you finish. We have towel bins placed all around the courts. • Lighting: At night, please turn the court lights off when you are done playing. The lights are on a timer until midnight. Our electric bill runs $60K a year. • Court Reservations: Please, when you reserve a court online or with us provide/list all players for assigned court. This will help us collect accurate utilization data. • Clay courts will be freezing over the next several months. Before you get on the court, please confirm that your court is in playable condition at the tennis reception desk. This is a safety issue. When the court thaws the court becomes muddy and slick. What happens to clay courts when they freeze? During the next several months we will have issues with the clay courts freezing overnight. The first question we get from our members is “Why don’t you stop watering the courts?” Each year, starting December 1 through the end of February we do not water our clay courts. During this time, we also drain all waterlines to make sure we don’t have frozen pipes. The courts are not in need of water. If we go through a warm weather period, we will add calcium and hand water them to meet our standards. We delay play when the courts freeze to preserve the integrity of our courts and most importantly, to assure your safety. The frozen courts become unplayable as
