Board Book 2023

documentation. Dr. Jesse Bion Moreland has also moved to Florida and provided all required documentation. He still has a home in Monroe, GA which is not outside the designated counties eligible for election to non-resident membership. They keep the house as Mrs. Moreland has family in Monroe whom she still visits. Erica noted that they moved in January and have not used the Club since then. She asked that the committee consider making an exception to the rule as they have been long standing Jones members and she did not feel they would take advantage of the Club. After much discussion, the committee agreed that both should be granted non resident status. This recommendation will be taken to the Board for approval. Membership Reports – Erica Smith: Erica then reviewed the membership reports. Our cap for Jones is 1225 and our cap for Heisman is 325. We have slowly worked our way down to 329 Heisman members. We do not include surviving spouses in this number. Our total member count is 1912 and was 1938 one year ago. Our JME count is 1411.96. This number represents the full Jones dues equivalent. We take the total amount of dues revenue, divide by $899 and get 1411.96. The waitlist for golf has been very slow, as we were able to only get 2 members off the waitlist last month. The wait for golf rights is now 24 months. We have 50 folks locked in and 21 not locked in. The 32 legacies are also locked in. Erica believes the waitlist length is deterring people from joining and deterring members sponsoring others to join. Milford then asked Erica to discuss the Heisman category. Back in October 2019, our membership peaked with 1963 total members and 5403 bodies which includes spouses and children. We were at capacity and events were full, we had waitlists and tee times were hard to get. Since then, we have capped our membership categories and now have 1912 members and 5222 member bodies. This is a decrease of 181 member bodies. Our events are not selling out and we are not having the waitlists like we did before. Golf is still constrained, but those who use the lottery system usually get a tee time. The events have increased capacity, so members who want to attend are accommodated. She, along with the Membership Vison Task Force recommends that we take in 10 additional Heisman members and have a temporary cap of 340 Social members. This will not impact golf. There was a great deal of discussion about events and pricing. Yes, our prices have increased, but everything has increased with inflation and our events are still a good value. There was also more discussion about sponsors being more involved in keeping their prospective member engaged with the Club by inviting them to dinners, events and golf. The committee agreed that 10 prospective Heisman members be allowed to start the membership process. This will increase the total Heisman count to 340 and add about 40 additional bodies. We will continue to monitor their usage to see if any impact on the membership as a whole. Erica noted the resignations, deaths and upgrades from April. The JME analysis shows that we had a net -0.4 JME. Now that Riverside is complete, and COVID is over, this will be our most normal year in 3 years. Our budget for initiation fees is $3.19M for the fiscal year and we are at $331K after one month. Erica has 6 in process for next month. She has noted that prospective members are slower to turn in their paperwork.
