WINE101: Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented fruit juice, most commonly grapes. Wine is produced worldwide, and has been for thousands of years, with its origins dating back to 6000 BC and its consumption playing an important role in both social and religious history. There are over 10,000 varietals of grapes that can be used for wine making, which all belong to the species Vitis Vinifera. The style and characteristics of a wine can vary widely by not only the type of grape used, but by region, climate, wine making style/practices and vintage.
