Rules – Golf

GOLF – GENERAL

1. a. Attire for men and boys – shall consist of a collared golf shirt which must remain tucked in at all times. Tee shirt collars are not permissible. Long trousers other than denim should be neat in appearance. Golf shorts or Bermuda style shorts are permissible on the golf course provided they are no shorter than four inches above the knee measured from the top of the knee while standing. Cargo pants/shorts are not allowed. Hooded outerwear (hoodie) that is of the style sold in the golf shop is permitted. The hoodie must be from a golf- centric manufacturer with an optional embroidered logo no larger than 3” tall and wide. Collegiate and sweatshirt-type hoodies are not permitted in the clubhouse, or on the golf courses and practice facilities. Hoodies are permitted in the clubhouse where golf attire is permitted, except in the Merion Room. b. Attire for women and girls – shall consist of skirts, shorts, dresses or pants with shirts or sweaters. Dresses, skirts, and golf shorts may not be shorter than mid-thigh length measured from the top of the knee while standing. Halters, tank tops, bare midriff garments, short shorts and leggings/yoga pants (as an outer piece) are not permissible. Sleeveless tops must have a collar, crew neck or high neck. No denim is allowed. c. General – Hats, caps, and visors must be worn with the bill toward the front. Shoes are mandatory; Soft-spike or spikeless only. Specialty items, carried in the golf shop for casual and after hours wear, may not be permissible golf attire.

2. Each golfer must have a set of clubs and a bag in order to play golf on the main courses. Two players may not play from the same bag.

3. Personal beverage coolers are not permitted on the golf course.

4. Golf courses and all practice areas are designated “quiet zones.” On the golf course, cell phone calls may be made to the halfway house for food and beverage orders, to the golf pro shop for rulings or weather information, and in emergency situations. In addition, audible sound from electronic devices (i.e. music) is not allowed unless using personal listening devices or earbuds.

5. Joggers and walkers using the golf course must be off the course before the first starting time.

6. Practice is permitted only at the practice facility and the main putting green. Practice facility hours will be posted seasonally. Range balls are not to be removed from the practice facility. Chipping a nd pitching to the practice putting greens is not allowed. Practice is not permitted on the grass tee in front of the Robert T. Jones, Jr. Instruction Center except during lessons. Practice on the north end tee will be limited to artificial mats during the non-growing season.

GOLF COURSE ETIQUETTE

7. All play is governed by the USGA Rules of Golf, except as modified by local rules, which are posted in the locker rooms. It is each golfer’s responsibility to be familiar with the etiquette section in the Rules of Golf book.

8. Tee Time Cancellation – When a reserved tee time goes unused and is not cancelled in time to allow another member to use the time, the member may be penalized at the discretion of the Director of Golf.
