50 years of AAC dues, wow! One of my first experiences at the AAC was taking swimming lessons at the downtown facility in the 60’s. In the 70’s, tee times were rarely necessary and there would only be a few people at the pool. In the 80’s and 90’s my family had a lot of fun at the AAC Yacht Club on Lake Lanier. I have seen a lot of changes and had a lot of fun at various social events with friends over the years, but the best experiences Beth and I have had involved raising our children at the Club. Both of our children swam on the Barracuda swim team for many years. They were also very involved with the Junior Golf Program. They greatly benefitted from the dedication and time that Jimmy, Chan and Matt invested in them. I truly believe that it is one of the best junior golf programs in the country. The success of the program is evident in the number of golfers in high school, college and professionally that represent the AAC. Now, our daughter is a third-generation member and our grandson will start Little Chippers next summer – so a new chapter of fun is starting all over again with a fourth generation on the course. Bill and Decie Nygaard In 1975, we relocated from Sandy Springs as we wanted to be close to the club. At that time, both of us were beginners at tennis, and we met many friends at the tennis court. Before ALTA, the men would meet Saturday morning to play tennis and then play afternoon golf making a full day of sports. Our two daughters were part of the gymnastics league and then they started playing tennis. In our senior years, we took up golf and played with many golf friends at the club on Sunday afternoon then dined. Decie and I also enjoyed going to the Athletic Center to keep us going. In addition, we enjoyed many meals at the club, from dining in the Merion Room having Kurt’s bananas foster prepared at the table. Sunday brunch was great having Jessie’s grits and sausage gravy and fried chicken. We’ve met many loyal employees over the years as well. My family treasures all of our fond memories at the Athletic Club. See you out there!
