The Club Times: May/June
Membership Updates Davis & Kay Stewart Wow, time really flies. I joined the AAC as a junior member in 1973. At that time, there was not much out by the Club. Dad and I would take a sack lunch to have after golf ! When I graduated from UGA in 1980, my Dad said “that’s it. This is your choice to continue your membership and PAY for it.” Kay and I had just been married and we didn’t have 2 nickels to rub together. The advice from Dad was if you can swing it, the AAC will be a wonderful place to raise your family and it will be an ideal place to build long lasting relationships. Needless to say that was a wonderful piece of advice. My time at the AAC holds a special place in my life. There were many experiences; some funny, some educational and some sad. I was scared to death of Jim Britt our head starter. Come to find out I think everybody was scared of him. However, he taught me how to be on time! David Sheppard (when he was Club Manager) will remember a time when I hosted a private party that got out of hand, that turned into me receiving a call from him for damages the next morning! On a sad note, my Dad suffered a life ending heart attack at the young age of 74 at the Guard Gate. Chris Borders says that’s why we installed AED machines all over the Club. Both of my brothers are members of the Club and we cherish the legacy he and Mom provided for us. At 94 Mom still uses the Club. I was honored to be on the AAC Board and serve a term as President and Chairman from 2006 to 2012, I credit many on the Club staff with teaching me important lessons of life and the lub industry. People like Chris B., Margaret A., Tony, Roxanne, Mary, Erica, Rod, Margaret T., Neil, Craig, Jimmy H., Chris M., Martin and the list goes on. You folks are like family! My golfing friends are not only good friends but good people. When you are an average golfer like me, you learn that’s it’s not about where you play but who you play with!!! Oh and by the way, have I mentioned that real men do Pilates… Give it a try, it will change your life! Kay and I look forward to many more wonderful years at the AAC!
