quality members, to ensure the advancement of our country club for generations to come. Since our membership is by invitation only, we rely on you to bring in new members who will be great stewards of our Club. We are looking for candidates who embrace our rich history of championship golf and contribute to a warm, welcoming environment where families create memories and friendships flourish. As we have previously announced, on August 1, 2024, there will be a 20% increase in initiation fees for all membership categories. The Jones membership will now be $120,000, with adjustments for Heisman, Legacy, and Associate categories accordingly. This initiation fee change reflects our dedication to maintaining and improving the exceptional facilities, programs, and experiences that define our club. We continue to provide unmatched service, craft unforgettable experiences, and expand our championship history. Heisman, Associate Heisman, and Legacy Heisman members: Now is the time to upgrade to a Jones Golf Membership before the fees go up. A 20% deposit is required to be placed on the External Waitlist, and all paperwork must be submitted by August 1, 2024, to take advantage of the current initiation fees. Dear Members, We hope you are having a wonderful summer! The Club is gearing up for another spectacular 4th of July, and this year we are giving back to an organization that is close to our hearts. A portion of this year’s ticket sales will be donated to Folds of Honor, an organization that supports military families. As a thank you for your contribution, we will be hosting the Budweiser Clydesdales during this year’s July 4th celebration! This has been an exciting year at the Club, filled with fantastic events including the 30A party, Mother-Daughter Tea, and the Gentlemen’s Spring Invitational. We have also made several improvements to our facilities like our beautiful new pickleball stadium and the grand renovation of our Men’s Locker Room. In addition, our fantastic young athletes continue to enrich our incredible junior programming with excitement and determination. As of this month, we are only a year away from hosting the 2025 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, where we hope to see some of the young ladies on the National Junior Team who visited us for the inaugural U.S. National Development Program in early May. This tournament kicks off the three USGA Amateur Championships that will be hosted at Atlanta Athletic Club over the next decade. As you know, AAC is truly a special place and it is the Membership Committee’s mission that we continue attracting

ELEVATING Club and Team Members Use Creativity & Collaboration
the ballroom, to a Fly AAC theme for a Play with a Pro Tournament. Ortner recalls, “We had the Pro Shop dress as captains and we were stewardesses. We were out on the course delivering Biscoff cookies and water.” Part of what sends events over the edge of expectation is the collaboration between the team and AAC members. When both parties have the opportunity to bring in their own ideas and dress the part, it brings each vision into a sharper focus for those who attend. “I just really enjoy them being with us, and they always participate in our fun events,” Tholen says about working with the AAC team. “Whether they want to or not,” Ortner adds. “They may be reluctant sometimes because we’ve had them in a lot of costumes!” Throughout the year of 2023 team and club members worked together to offer a wide range of events to celebrate 125 years as a Club. It started with a big kick-off party and ended with an elegant, music-filled gala. In between were events for members of all ages and interests, like casual barbecues, friendly athletic competitions, and an elevated picnic experience. “When celebrating the Club’s 125th Anniversary, there was such a great opportunity for the team to come together, and also plan with our membership and let them have a say in what they wanted to see,” Harkleroad recalls. As Club events have grown over the years, the social events team has continued to find new ways to
Club Members and Team Members alike have been using their talents and expertise to craft memorable moments for both club members and special guests across Atlanta Athletic Club's growing list of events. The Club is fortunate to have team members Oakley Sutherland, Member Events & Services Manager, and Kelsey Harkleroad, Catering Director, who have continued to step out from the path of normalcy to provide one-of-a kind experiences for both new and traditional events.
However, the Club’s team is not the only group dedicated to creating elevated experiences around the Club. Longtime members (and best friends), Kathy Tholen and Nancy Ortner, have been piloting exceptional events since they first became involved with the Women’s Nine Hole Golf Association. “We love to plan together,” says Tholen. “I think we work well together.” The pair have crafted several themes and schemes with the 9-Hole Ladies throughout the years, from a Roamin’ Riverside Tournament, which involved toga-clad golf pros and a golden chariot golf cart cruising through
OUR CORE VALUES Atlanta Athletic Club operates under five Core Values. Over the next five issues of the Club Times, we will be celebrating club and team members who exemplify these values, making AAC the incredible club that it is!
Elevating Experiences Our club pairs unmatched scale and scope with high-quality resources, high-character people, heightened attention to detail, and a relentless spirit that delivers and elevated experience for our members, team members, and guests.
Embracing Relationships We believe that respectful, encouraging, and genuine relationships between members, our families, and team members are the heart of our club, and we show that in every interaction we have.
EXPERIENCES to Deliver Extraordinary Events at Atlanta Athletic Club
Harkleroad believes it’s the little details that take events at Atlanta Athletic Club to the next level. It’s not always the “fireworks at the wedding” that make the biggest impression, sometimes it’s the small touches that people remember most. In 2023, Club and team members had the opportunity to put a Halloween spin on the East Lake Cup, a college tournament that AAC had the unique opportunity to host. Fall florals and skeletons were scattered along the tables in the 1898 House, where teams and their families could recuperate throughout the competition. The biggest crowd pleasers, however, were the scarecrows set up along the patio, decorated to look like the visiting golf coaches, each surrounded by objects that represented each school. “All of the players loved it, the guests loved it, and the people of the club loved it,” says Ortner, who enjoyed seeing people stop by to get a photo with their team of choice. “Creating elevated experiences is about the wow factor,” Sutherland explains. “What are they walking away with? Not necessarily something physical, but are they having a great time? How are we creating certain moments that are unexpected?” “We want our club to look the best, to have the best, and to have the best members we can be,” says Tholen. “And we are so glad that we are able to do it together.” Want to learn more about how AAC continues to elevate experiences? accommodate the number of people eager to attend the Club's larger occasions, such as the Christmas Spectacular, which faces the challenge of limited space each year due to the colder weather. However, Sutherland and her team not only created more space with an outdoor tent, but they also used this new component to enhance last year’s Who-ville theme. “I think creating that space and actually turning it into something great like the Grinch’s Lair where you’re in the mountains and it’s cold and drafty,” says Sutherland, “it ended up working perfectly for that event.” As most members know, Atlanta Athletic Club has hosted an impressive list of golf tournaments alongside the PGA and USGA. Still, they may not realize the impressive décor and special touches that are spotted throughout the tournaments are produced through the joined efforts of club and team members. Ortner and Tholen recall having iconic Palmer umbrellas hung from the ballroom ceiling for the Arnold Palmer Cup in 2017. They also worked with the team to turn the back of the Clubhouse into a traditional, relaxing, southern backyard for the young men competing in the U.S. Amateur in 2014. As recently as this past May, the pair pulled a group of volunteers together to transform the Jones Center into a patriotic lounge and locker area for the USGA’s National Junior Golf Team. “When you have these events, they’re like guests in your home and you want everything to look right,” Ortner explains. “You want it to be special – something out of the ordinary.”
Serving Our Club with Gracious Hospitality We don't just expect gracious hospitality and great service from our club, we are here to serve our club and each other with a mindset to leave things and people better than we found them.
Inspiring Discovery Whether it's a long-held passion, something new to explore, or friends old and new to spend time with, we inspire ourselves and each other to discover and deepen what matters most to each of us.
Growing Stronger For 125 years, our club has pursued excellence. That's why our members and our club are never done pursuing the growth that makes us stronger - for ourselves, and collectively as part of our shared experience at Atlanta Athletic Club.

Do you know that there is a tennis etiquette to follow in order to switch team? Etiquette to switch teams within AAC Teams: • Communicate with Carmen Garcia-Jersild via e-mail at cmg@aac1.org to let her know you are planning to move teams and discuss options. • Please let your current captain know that you will be leaving the team. Thank them for their hard work and for having you be part of their team. You will only be allowed to leave a team if that team is not in jeopardy of folding. • We will try our best to find you a team at the appropriate level. • The main reason to communicate to your current captains is for them to make sure her team is whole with enough players to be competitive in their division for the next season.

opponents “attackable” zone. This keeps you in trouble for the most part. You will lose 60 to 90 percent of these points. You need to change your shot selection when your contact point is knee height and lower. This zone is called the “un-attackable zone”. When your contact point is in the “un-attackable zone”, you need to send the ball to your opponent into their “un-attackable” zone. In order to do this, you need to hit the ball with a lot less speed. Your goal is to have the ball land near your opponent’s feet. Learning when and how to hit softer shots will be a game changer! This takes a lot of practice and patience! If this is something you struggle with on the pickleball court, give me a call! I would be happy to get out on the court with you! Pickleball Tip Win More with Softer Shots QUESTION: What is the biggest thing you can adjust to your pickleball game? ANSWER: When your point of contact to hit the ball is low, you should hit slow! Let’s suppose you have played a lot of games of pickleball. Your style of play is hitting most of the balls hard and fast. You are having fun! However, you feel like you should be winning more often. Hitting hard and fast is normally a good option when your contact point is waist height or higher. These are what we call “attackable” shots. The problem I see happening a lot, is that people are hitting the ball hard and fast when the contact point is knee height and lower. When you hit these low balls hard and fast, you put the ball in your Note From Carmen: Fall 2024 ALTA captains should not accept any new players for their team unless it has been communicated between all parties involved (this includes my knowledge, the previous captain and new captain know that the players would like to move teams). We are all in this together and to keep growing the program, communication is vital. Wendy's Tennis Tip ‘Communication is key’. Use short words or phrases like yours, mine, got it, go, switch, and I’m here to your partner. By doing this, you and your partner will have better success with court awareness (knowing where each of you are on the court during point play), and can promote better strategy to capture the big ‘Win’.
