A Year of Celebration & Making History A Letter From the 125th Anniversary Committee

Bobby Jones said, “what’s important is our friends and friendships.” October will also bring more celebration events. Many of you heard about the super successful June foursomes match with East Lake, our original country club facility. The follow-up match will be October 13 at our Atlanta Athletic Club. A shout out to Tim Commons for a great job organizing this fun day of competition using the popular and unique foursomes style play. Due to the renovation project of the golf course at East Lake, we will be hosting the Annual East Lake Cup on October 29 through November 1. This competition brings together the collegiate men’s and women’s four finalist teams from the NCAA Golf Championships held this past June at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, AZ. Included in the field will be the men’s teams from Georgia Tech, Florida, North Carolina (including our own David Ford), and Florida State. The women’s teams will be Wake Forest, Southern California, Stanford, and Texas A&M. Plan to attend and support these outstanding student athletes. The competition will be covered by The Golf Channel which is another opportunity to showcase our Club and the 125th! Quasquicentennial, the word meaning “125 anniversary” was coined from an engineer to describe a celebration of such an anniversary. Our Atlanta Athletic Club has reached this level in our history. Interestingly, the number 125 has a meaning, it’s about “hope, encouragement

and positivity.” This phrase is particularly relevant as we all review our history through the excellent communications from our team members and members which we have received throughout the year. We hope these historical pieces have encouraged you to seek additional information by walking through our clubhouse to notice and read our extensive memorabilia. As we enter the autumn season there are several celebration events in which you will want to participate. The actual date of our 125th anniversary is September 5, 2023. Since this date falls at the Labor Day Holiday, scheduling necessitates we use September 4 as an event day. Look out for information about golf, tennis, athletics and other opportunities. The Friday, September 8 Gala Celebration will be a Black Tie Affair starting at 5:30pm. This is an all inclusive event with some surprises for your entertainment pleasure. It will be a memorable evening and a chance to share your own club memories with your fellow members. As
