50 Year Members Mrs. Ann McCrory
Our 50 years of fun at the Atlanta Athletic Club started when Bob Boylston, Sr. sponsored my husband, Charles “Doc” McCrory for membership. At that time, we were a family with three young children, living in Tucker. The Boylstons were our next-door neighbors, and it did not take much convincing from Bobby for us to become members. The cost of a membership at that time was just a few thousand dollars! As Doc would say, “it’s been a great ride!”

So many great family memories have been made at the AAC including Sunday lunches with our children, pool time and ice cream with eight grandchildren, and Doc teaching some of them how to play golf. We spent many weekends on the lake at AAC Yacht Club sailing, skiing, and enjoying the sunsets. The July 4th celebrations were always a favorite. We’ve enjoyed Saturday nights in the Merion Room- dinner and dancing to band music. The AAC has always been an amazing place to celebrate any occasion. The crazy game of golf has provided many great opportunities for a good laugh, getting to know new friends and has been such a big part of our time at AAC. My late husband was passionate about his game and sharing his love of the sport with his family. After his passing in 2012, the club became a “lifesaver” for me as I continued to keep myself busy in the 9-hole group, joined the bridge club, and to exercise classes at the health club. The club provided me with such an amazing support system and I am forever grateful. With all the growth over the years, the one thing that has not changed is the kindness of the staff and the friendships that have been made. The McCrory family will cherish all the memories that have been made over the years and look forward to the memories that are yet to come. Thank you to the Atlanta Athletic Club for providing years of fun, cherished memories, and lifelong friendships.
Chip Smith One of my first memories (5) was joining the AAC swim team at East Lake under the coaching of Carlos de Cubas. I enjoyed fishing in the lake at East Lake. After the club moved north, I was at the club almost every day it was open. Buz McGriff made sure that we did things the right way, he was a class act. We would wait to tee off in the afternoon sitting on the bench ready for the signal from Jim Britt.
I have made so many friends at the AAC that I consider them some of my closest friends. I can’t image my life without everything I have experienced at the AAC.
