Pace of Play
g o l f
The pace of play at the Atlanta Athletic Club is a topic we take very seriously. In a round of golf, you find yourself hitting somewhere between 70-100 shots. Between pre-shot routines, proper golf etiquette, and having to find those pesky lost balls a round can take quite a while. The goal at AAC is for a round to take four hours when carts are off the path, and four hours and 15 minutes when carts are on the path. Some tips to improve the pace of play: • Halfway House – It is a time killer! Please use it quickly. If possible, please utilize the beverage carts for food and drink options. If you would like to order something that needs to be prepared, please order on #8 tee by calling (770) 368-7751. • Forget honors entirely; play ready golf at all times. • Determine your yardage before it is your turn to hit. The cart GPS yardages are now to the hole. • Try this guideline: From the time you pick up your coin, you have 15 seconds in which to hit a putt. • In the age of plastic spikes and smooth soles, practice continual putting. Once you begin putting, continue to putt, even if you are standing on someone’s line. • The first golfer to hole out should hold the flagstick and replace it. • Never park a golf cart on the front side of the green; park it as close as possible to the point of exit from the green, closest to the next tee. • When riding in a cart, after hitting a shot, keep your club in your hand. Replace it in the bag only after the cart has stopped at its next position. • Last but not least, if you are close to the hole and have your ball marked, and someone hits out of the bunker, be a first-class groupmate and rake the bunker for them. This will cut out the in-between time of waiting for them to rake the bunker, and then walk to their ball and mark it and get ready to putt.
The marshals and golf professionals monitor the pace of play and want to help you enjoy your round and those behind you. There may be a need to nudge you to improve your pace. Please know we are there to assist you. Golf is meant to be a relaxed, peaceful sport that can take your mind off of a long work week! If you take these few suggestions and implement them into your future rounds, you will find yourself ahead of pace and ability to focus purely on those lowering golf scores!
